I am in HK. I am working in private hospital as lab tech now.

I am just tempted to go back to research path in HKU or CU. I don't think going in there finding a RA post and studying Mphil would be of a difficult task. Afterall, if I can work for 10 hours a day in a private lab with lots of pressure, anything is possible. Whether it is worth giving up my current job and stay in QMH or PWH having such low paid doing research is another problem though.

Any suggestion?

oic oic...

it really depends on how desire to further study ga wow.......
I will consider not only on my own interest.......but my age....any family burden.......
for you, you can do 4 years phd straight ahead in hk........for sure.....
do you have any concern?

I don't have any family burden. However, money is a critical issue. If I am not going to have a better paid job (than 4 years without PhD) or social status after having my PhD, it's not worth it for me personally.

Of course, as Narius had said, it's all about one's interest. On a practical note though, you do need to feed yourself. Like everyone else, I want to get rich ASAP.

That's why I would like to know what's beyond PhD in biomedical research. How's the salary? I am still young. If I have to study, I should study NOW or never. It's really troubling me.

biomedical research in hk's universities are furious.......highly competitive.........
one of my fd's fd got a very good paper (HKU phd, states pdf for 4 years) IF 14, now become a Research Assistant professor in cuhk.  salary is 4XXXX.
but really only few of them could get RAP post (CONTRACT BASIS).....
for sure, private sector is even worse.

I guess it really depends on your luck then. Cuz all of the professors in HKU faculty of medicine are MD. It's no longer fun anymore. haha

That's why I always say every hardcore scientist can be a competent medical Dr!

果時msf黎我學校promote (事實上我一大ja同學都響msf做過, 都唔知佢為咩...)

我同佢個rep講: I shall be back!

I think they REALLY need biomedical scientists for malaria/TB/HIV diagnostic work

But 2 years of experience is required, even for PhD holders.
