Choosing among 3 GOs

I have shortlisted 3 GOs:-

1. PanoMaticDate

2. Panorama date with Moonphase

3. Senator Sixties Chronograph

Which one would you choose?  Is the most popular GO a Pano?

socialwong 2011-5-21 05:17 PM

IMHO, I'd pick 1.
Reason, best C/P ratio with all GO elements.

Otherwise, option 2 and 3 are also good choices.
Senator comes with most updated cal.100 with second reset function which rarely seen
in the price range.
Chrono ones equipped with classical cal.39 and very smooth chrono function, in case you
really need one.

Definitely the off-centered dial Pano, which is an all time classic.
IMHO, dress watch looks more elegant with a small second sub-dial.

hsbkl 2011-5-22 12:12 AM

最受歡迎當然係pano啦, 但3隻入面, 我就選 moonphase, 夠簡約, 如果係rose gold, 就仲正

smallpea 2011-5-22 12:14 AM

I would choose no. 2 as well

Thanks, C Hings.  I think I will pick the Pano.  Is 25% off a good discount?

smallpea 2011-5-22 12:41 PM

I asked about this on Friday and one of the shops in TST only offered me 10% discount.

Vote for 1st.

It should be hard to get a discount better than 12% off. I asked last month in an AD in Harbour City. The best I can get is 12 off and an OEM strap.

If you have friends in US, you can ask them to buy one for you. The price should be much better than HK. For PanoMatic Date on bracelet, an US AD told me that he can do for 9200USD.

smallpea 2011-5-22 10:53 PM

the price seems similar to yhe pano with moon phase or gmt, will u consider those?

I have ruled out PanoMaticVenue (ie GMT) because I heard that GO's GMT complication cannot match that of Rolex.

As to PanoMaticLunar (ie Moon phase) , it is very attractive.  I will consider it.  I wonder if GO makes the best moon phase watch?

smallpea 2011-5-23 07:44 AM

Msy I ask why it is not as good as Rolex? If you compsre it to GMT Master, isn't it only equipped with a dial which you could adjust the time? I thought it's even simpler?

Hsbkl C hing... I'm interested to the watch that you post on your 頭像. Can you advise the price and the details? Ceramic? Thanks!

I wonder the reasons whom said Rolex GMT is better than GO.

Actually, GO is a few of true manufacturer in the world with heritage of German horology.
GO makes a lot of great complications from tourbillon to split-chrono, from pocket watch to 31-day alarm.
You could check their website and explore her mix of art and handcraft.

Besides, PML is agreed as one of the most beautiful moon phrase watch piece.

I googled "rolex gmt complication" and the first result is:-
"Rolex invented the GMT complication and remains the gold standard for this type of watch.  Time for a quick lesson, readers: Most of the watches sold as GMT watches aren’t. A proper GMT movement allows the hour hand of the watch to be adjusted independently so that the GMT hand remains set to, you guessed it, Greenwich Mean Time. But most watch companies ... cheat and just add a third hand to an off-the-shelf ETA movement and call it a GMT. Sure, you can track a second time zone, but it’s not nearly as easy to set nor is it a proper GMT. Not to mention it’s lazy watchmaking."
Of course GO's movement is not off-the-shelf ETA movement but is in-house.  However  I wonder if PMV allows the hour hand of the main dial to move independently of the minute hand (the sign of a proper GMT complication).  Maybe social c-hing can help.

As to the moon phase watch, I am looking for one as photo-listic as the LW below (which I cannot afford at the moment):-

I think the hour hand does operste independently since it has a sub dial especially for it?

Thanks for your information. This is quite interesting question. Let me find it out.

Besides, the "real moon phrase" in the picture reminds me a watch recently I found
on web with a big "ball-shape" moon in the middle of the dial. However, I hardly remember
the brand name....anyone saw it?

I think we are talking about the hour hand in the "hour and minute" sub-dial on the left, not the GMT sub-dial on the right.  It appears that a proper GMT complication should permit you to move the hour hand on the left sub-dial independently.  For example, if you are flying from London to Hong Kong, all you have to do is to turn the hour hand (without moving the minute hand) forward for 8 hours.  The GMT hand should always be pointing at the current GMT time. I hope this help explaining the proper GMT complication.

Can any C Hing explain whether the PMV has a proper GMT complication?

Thanks! Now I am 100% clear of what you meant.

Check out the post below. I below it has a proper GMT complications. Especially when dandanzero said, "10點位置按鈕和8點鐘按鈕是GMT功能(即兩地時)分別可以順時針或逆時針調教大時針。比如說你身在中國,當你飛到日本時,日本比中國快1個時區,那麼就按一下順時針的按鈕,時針就會向前跳一個小時。
2點鐘位置有一個小表盤,無論左邊兩個按鈕怎麼按都不會影響到此錶盤,這個就是手錶真正的時間。也是你家鄉的時間。若你身在本地。他就可以當成是日夜輪顯示。調教日曆的時候就可以更好地避免了晚上調日曆造成的故障。"
Please confirm my understanding. Thanks!

It appears that GO PMV, like Rolex, is also using a proper GMT complication.

Besides, I also find this GO sport GMT which might provide "true" GMT functions.
----------------------------------------
This GMT has got it all! Glashutte Original Sport Evolution GMT...
Hi all,
This may be the neatest and most usable GMT tool-watch ever.
-new Caliber 39-55
-instant 12 hour hand adjustment (advance and retard the hour hand in one hour "jump" increments using the buttons on the side of the case)
-Display back with concave sapphire for wrist comfort
-20ATM
-Swan-neck fine adjustment regulator!
-Fine adjsutment clasp on the bracelet (8mm of adjustment)
-Large date display (linked to the 24 hour hand, I believe)

Not just high price.  Crappy and ugly Italian watch with no provenance. Not to be compared with GO. :lol
