:)  The chance is small but I went to some which could survive. I live in Tai Wai. Location is important to me. Where are you going to have activities?

I doubt the effectiveness of such English Club unless certan clube members have very high English standard and are willing to spend their leisure time to help the others.

Well, I think practice is the most important in learning one language.  I just wanna try to see if there's anyone having same idea and they want to practise their English as well. If you don't practise, you proabably can never improve yourself in any forms of learning. e.g. piano, diving etc.. If there's fun, sounds better.  I think everyone knows that there's no free lunch in this world. If you really want to learn something professional, you gotta seek professional assistance.  That's true. Thanks.

this is not a bad idea, maybe you can post a same thread on the English Learning board in this forum to take in more people. a large number of people there are students, but i think you can find some working adults who are interested in improving/keeping up with their english standard on that board.

i had a similar idea with yours around a year ago, and i tried to realize it, turnout my try failed as too few people joined in.

kospwt 2011-6-28 11:55 AM

Count me in!
I wanna host an English speaking forum during weekend...(once or twice a mont) and we may meet up somewhere in MK, TST or CWB and find an upstair-cafe for chats...
Despite of big gap of language proficieny among us, we may, at least, have more time to practise our daily-life English outside the workplace...

GTO1107 2011-6-28 02:25 PM

how about we start our first meeting on the afternoon of 3/7 ?

i have never hosted or joined such english-practising meeting, but i think it is just like a normal one except all of us have to speak in eng most of the time during the meeting.

i live in Tai Wai, i preliminarily suggest to host this meeting at TST as to make it more convenient to those who live in HK island. it's also OK for the West NT residents as the West rail link can reach straight to the district.
but the final decision should be based on the living places of the final confirmed joiners. if none of the joiners live in HK island, we can make suitable modification on the location accordingly.

venue: starbucks/pacific coffee. this is our first meeting so i would just make it as safe as possible. Everyone of us has been in the coffee shops of these two brands, and i think you would agree the environments there are pretty good, and are quite suitable for an english-practising meeting, right?
since the environments of starbucks/pacific coffee are guaranteed and we are all familiar with the venues, i think they are the best choices for the meeting.

preliminary decision: starbucks@i-square, as everyone would know the way if s/he commutes by MTR.

i have tried to make a good proposal. your opinions are welcomed and are necessary in making this proposal a better and more tailor-made one. both date and venue are open for modification.

preliminary joiner list: (3/7 afternoon, starbucks@i-sqaure)
1. GTO1107

I doubt the effectiveness of such English Club unless certan clube members have very high English standard and are willing to spend their leisure time to help the others.
in fact, you can be benefited from such meeting even there is no professional english speaker around.

in the meeting, you can
1. force yourself to speak in english and be braver and more familiar with speaking english with time.
2. form and maintain an english club to wait if there will be better english speakers joining in.
3. exchange english learning ideas and materials.

I think we my consider to rotate the location of Kln/Hong Kong Island from time to time. Well, I think we may consider to have 2-3 topics before. How about the 1st topic is about english use in workplace. Or any other suggestions? People can talk about anything about english related in the workplace or other topics. However, I would suggest that all participants must use english in meeting and No Chingish is allowed. :loveliness:

an alternative , central library provide discusion room service, charge at 40 to 60 per hr.  i just feel odd to speak non- native english in starbuck, feel embarassed.. :smile_o05:

but since it needs booking, we need to have enough number of reliable participants (4ppl at least), and need to have all these primary participants confirmed a period of time before the meeting date (so we can do the booking).

i will certainly be one of the primary participant, how about you BeingR, can you be confirmed that you will attend the meeting if there's enough ppl and the venue is central lib?

especially Vie, you are the starter of this English club idea. without you, there won't be so many posts here discussing the club and the meeting. i can see our goal of setting up an english club is a step further, it is like we can get some results here this time. Please join in to discuss the location, date and time matters as to achieve our first meeting.

it is that say again, looking forward to meet all of you soon.:smile_o15:
