Advice to retain staff

I need to retain a staff who has resigned for a better pay and career path job.  The reason behind is a political issue.  How can I do it?  What are the Pros and Cons to do so for the impact on other staff?  Appreciate your advice and guidance.

a gift?  What is that? [/quote] Try to have an award or some kind ... if it was an outstanding sales person, i would award him/her with something that associates with recognition so to also increase his/her brand loyalty towards company.:smile_38:

Increase pay solves everything. Cos the person would prolly choose to stay rather than adapt to new co environment.

increase their wage and reward them.
and you should care their feeling.
try to understand their feeling and what they think.

Thanks for advice.  We are in trading company.  If the retention salary is higher than other better staff, it likely causes another issues.

may be you should think about this issue in different direction, like why would he stays if someone pays him more?

if you can't think of the reason yourself, I guess, perhaps, it's time to let go.

as said, it is a political, whatever, u pay high, i bet he won't
stay. !! u need to think, what sort of the political to incur his
resignation. furthermore, if it has been happened to him, the other
also will has too.

Pay rise is workable but you should have some calculation.  The staff will not leave for 10% pay rise.  Normally, 20-30% will attract her/him to move.  If you want to keep her/him, you need to give them >40%.  Can we afford??  If you afford this one, what about the rest??  Close the eyes and awaiting next resignation.

If we can align the salary inline with market price, say 15-20% you can save more - 20% plus recruitment agent fee.

why not spill a little bit more information of the reason, i suppose, on a generally known basis people know how to retain desirable staff who are resigning (e.g. pay rise, reward, promotion, etc). I am sure that these things must have come across your mind already before now. Given the matter is politics driven as you said, that is what makes your case different from others and thus requires extraordinary solutions.  now special solutions can be achieved if there is enough info of the matter in question provided, so would you care to tip us (who are trying to help you) off a bit more of the matter.

Talk to the staff

Besides money, what else is the staff looking for in yr company?  will yr company provide him/her a better prospect in the future?

If you're managing a team,  be careful that you won't loss your sight of the 'forest' because of a 'tree'.  If the leaving staff is valuable and desires retention,  recognition in the form of promotion plus pay increment may help.  But you have to consider the moral of the remaining team members, especially if there are 'political' or 'chemistry' issues between the leaving staff and the rest of the team.  Good luck.
