Dear all,

I want to develop my career in the legal industry. I have done my CPE in the UK and I am now looking for job as a LE/Paralegal.

1. Does LE and paralegal share the same job duties and that the only difference is the job title?

2. Do I have to obtain a Diploma in Legal Studies to progress my career?

On the other hand, I am looking at job as an IP Agent.

3. If I want to get specialise into an IP Agent, what course/qualification exams do I have to take?

Thank you so much for the help!

Answers to your questions:1. Yes and no. different names but refer to the same thing. But only someone get the diploma can called himself Legal Executive.
2. Yes and no. LE can do a lot of things and a non-LE cant, in a way.
3. go to the web site of IP agents and find out yourself.

Thank you for your reply!

From your reply, it means that (1) only having done a Diploma in Legal Studies can call themselves Legal Executive, and that (2) to progress as a LE/Paralegal, the employer prefer you have a Diploma in Legal Studies than a CPE. Am I correct?

Regarding the IP Agent matter, I have found these 2 websites before I wrote this post but I think they are either irrelevant or the information is not comprehensive and updated.

Please advise me if I am on the wrong direction.

Thank you very much!

yes and no. I cannot speak for an employee and it depends on the nature of the legal firm. For instance, if the firm is heavily involved in conveyancing , LE matters little and I think they consider a CPE better. But if the firm has everything to do with LE, ha, you are good because you may to to the police station, etcs,. No, you get the right track, but there are one thing you have to know, which is , you need to learn the trade of Ip before you may enter into the IP agent field.

So is it the right track for me to start my path towards IP agent by getting a job with the IP department of a law firm? That will help me understanding the trade of IP and then a LLM in IP Law perhaps?

Thank you so much for your help!!!
