While there are some overlaps, these are two distinct products.
I can fit ipt in my jeans pocket... i doubt i can do the same for ipad mini.
ipad mini supports 3G+LTE but not ipod touch
I already have an iPad (1st gen) and i'm happy with it and therefore i have no intention for the ipad mini. I've ordered an ipt already for portability.
