個朋友話， 如果有PRACTICE， 就叫 BARISTER-AT-LAW。 冇PRACTICE， 可以自稱BARISTER。

冇PRACTICE then how long can u keep doing that unless u're working in a law related industry.
most professional society will require u to keep a min of so many hours a week of doing that. or else why call your self a barrister?
especially u're newly called to the bar.

只要已經called to the bar，就可以叫自己做barrister，但分別並不在有無at-law這個字，重點在於你是否practising或non-practising
一個 non-practising barrister在甚麼情況下可以叫自己做barrister？是有一些規限要遵守的，主要在於provide legal service方面，因為怕有人冒稱或濫用專業名號去提供法律服務

I take your fnd is only using the title to fool the non-professional folks as passing himself as a barrister. And probably in daily life he has nothing to do with law at all, except being a law abiding citizen.
I bet if he's at a cocktail among other lawyers he'd keep the opinion to himself.
a fnd actually went into retired position, but he is drafting financial law for Canadian govt, which doesnt require his law lic either.
Part of his work is to meet lobbyist on behalf of their clients mostly are lawyers, since the lobbyist wanted the law to change to their advantage, but he's eyeing his pension in the not too distant future, so why is he going to do anything funny?
