The synthetic route is as follows:

Step 1: Formation of sodium acetylide
C6H5-CC-H + NaNH2  ---->  [C6H5-CC]-(Na+) + NH3

Step 2: Alkylation of acetylide
[C6H5-CC]-(Na+) + C6H5-CH2-Br  ----> C6H5-CH2-CC-C6H5 + NaBr

Step 3: Reduction of alkyne to alkene in trans-stereochemistry
C6H5-CH2-CC-C6H5 + Na/NH3  ----> C6H5-CH2-CH=CH-C6H5

Step 4: Cyclopropanation of alkene
C6H5-CH2-CH=CH-C6H5 + CHCl3 (in NaOH/H2O)  ----->  the desired product
