Calcium carbonate solid and aqueous potassium carbonate

Zn(s) reacts with reactant X to form Zn2+(aq).   Zn2+(aq) reacts with reactant Y to form ZnCO3(s).
a. X=dil H2SO4(aq) and Y=CaCO3(s)
b. X=dil H2SO4(aq) and Y=K2CO3(aq)
Why is the answer b but not both?:smile_13:
Is it because Zn2+(aq)has to react with something aqueous to form ZnCO3(s) but not with something solid?

write the ionic equation

Zn2+ + CO32- -->ZnCO3

no CO32- ion, no "precipitation"
