你考左dse了? 而加讀緊乜? non grad route 要讀12科好甘!!
我覺得會適合d 有 degree 的人讀多d, llb 的東西都幾深, 個份量好好好多... 同埋無school life... 晚上上堂落堂...
我就每逢星期六日一都去番學, 星期一至五番工, 都無乜生活了, 之後臨考試之前就請假勁谷勁煲書... 結果.. 都過到骨的@@

Do you mean CPE is better than JD in HK?
My ultimate goal is to admit PCLL in HK.

i agree, you can always get a degree (more like language based subj) then go for JD la ... but then afterall its no promise to PCLL. And no promise to trainee contract.
so a lot of unknowns.
autumnka 2013-11-2 11:54
Why do you think CPE is better than JD? A lot of people consider JD better than CPE if you want to get admitted to PCLL and be a lawyer
smc6262 2013-11-12 00:01
JD vs CPE
JD tuition is 10 times more expensive than CPE
Admission rate to PCLL
JD : 25%
CPE : 20%
smc6262 2013-11-12 00:11
JD is harder to get in because there are many mainland students (= more competition)
For CPE, any mainland student?
PG_student 2013-11-12 00:24
JD tuition is 10 times more expensive than CPE?????
The tuition fee of CUHK JD is just around $300,000 while the tuition fee of CPE is around $80,000 .....10 times???
The PCLL admission rate through JD is around 40 to 50% according to the recent statistics....while the PCLL admission rate through CPE is just around 10-15% only.....
Chowlie 2013-11-12 01:06
I think JD is better...and it's getting popular indeed, the firm which I am working in employs quite a lot of JD graduates...

CityU JD $350,000 for 72 credits (2 years), books extra. Will raise to $376,000 in 2017. Full time program, so do not forget to include the opportunity cost as you need to quit your job.
CPE $30,000/year, raised to $36,000/year this year, books included, no need to quit your job.
For CUHK JD admission rate to PCLL, you are probably right if you don't count "both" full time and part time students (~300). If your statistics is right, then no space left for law students with bachelor degree.
(From one CUHK JD graduate 2011/2012):
- CUHK PCLL intake : 150
- Accepted from JD : 75
- Total JD graduates : around 300
- Acceptance rate ~= 25%
For CPE, 1st year - around 210-220 students; 2nd year - 120 students stay, 30-40 admit to PCLL, you tell me the percentage ok?

I think CPE is better because you don't need to quit your job and still get your second degree (no PCLL conversion).
Worldwide, so many universities offer JD program and as a result, too many JD graduates. Just one university, for example, Harvard University produces about 600 JD graduates each year.

睇下harvard個website先吹好唔好
How many students attend Harvard Law School?
Approximately 1,900 students attend the School each year: 1,680 J.D. students, 160 LL.M. students, and 50 S.J.D. candidates.

How about if KCL (King's College London) Dickson Poon Law School?
成年人^ 2013-11-12 22:34
Oxbridge, LSE, UCL, Durham/ KCL are the top ones. They are better than HKU, and thus their graduates are relatively easier to get admitted into HKU PCLL and hired by City firms. That's why I think they, and only they, worth £14,000/ year.
Nevertheless, it's quite fair to say law school doesn't matter much if grades are not given, vice versa. A very good grade from a second-tier law school definitely triumphs a bad one from a top law school.
m.chan66 2013-11-12 23:04
I am planning to study their MSc Construction Law & Dispute Resolution programme at KCL Dickson Poon Law School. I already have a LLB (Hons) 2nd (Division I) from U of London (External Programme). But I have been rejected twice for applying PCLL......

What a pity. But PCLL admission primarily depends on the result of your law degree, LLM won't help much unless you are a high achiever in your batch.
m.chan66 2013-11-13 00:19
Let me introduce my background a little bit.
I am a chartered surveyor with MRICS, MHKIS, RPS and working as a resident quantity surveyor in an international civil engineering firm. My salary including housing allowance is approximate $77K per month.
My academic qualifications include BSc 2nd Lower in Surveying (HKU), MSc Distinction in Construction Project Management (HKU) and LLB 2nd Upper (London U External). I have applied PCLL again, but finally no offer at all.....
I am planning to be an arbitrator/expert witness through studying a MSc Construction Law and Disputes Resolution at KCL for 1 year in full time mode or Executive part time mode for 2 years. The programme is accredited by Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
That's why I am thinking if KCL Dickson Poon Law School is considered as a good law school in the eyes of employers in HK. Or Else, I could just simply study a LLM Arbitration and dispute resolution at HKU in part time mode.
If I really aim at PCLL, I may need to apply JD CUHK or CPE at HKU Space......
What is your opinion? Please share. Thanks.

No wonder.
What are the opportunity cost of studying abroad? Do you enjoy study abroad? A law master from a top law school definitely aids a success in your career, in particular you are working in an international firm and (assuming) you have never been studying abroad. Your vision will be highly valued by your company.
Besides, you can still have a shot at PCLL after completion of your master degree. As to how much a LLM will increase your odds, as I said, depends on your grades (I guess you will do well as you have a law degree and have studied a master already). Let me assure you that KCL is not only a top law school but also a highly regarded one in general. When it comes to the standing of UK law schools, it generally features like this:
Oxbridge
LSE/UCL/ KCL/ Durham (and then closely followed by) Nottingham/ Manchester/ Bristol/ Warwick.
Oxbridge only consider applicants with a first class degree for their postgraduate courses though you can still give them a shot. Otherwise, studying in KCL will be a good decision.

if u're making close to 80k a yr, what kind of extra income will u gain?
double to 160K?
Do u really wanna to work so hard to gain so little.
I would enjoy life myself a bit. Inorder to go for a LLB u will ultimately have to forfeit 5yrs of earning, should u miss an investment cycle then u be really behind again.
Even lawyers do calculate the risk of up & down side before going to trial.
