i like your way of reasoning.
in some way this would work, u see Kitaro the famous japanese new age musician, he spend a lot of time living in the deep mountain, without civilizations, no power to turn lights on, no fridge ,TV. He has to bring water from river, cut wood to heat and cook. As he was trying to be as close to the real natural environment as possible inorder to give him the energy, ambiance, idea to write those great music.
your way would have worked if u were born during the beginning of the baby boom right after the warII. many professions were apprenticeship system.
The exams were much more forgiving. To the folks who can merely spoke 1/4 decent engrish will make a decent living plying his trade in tsim sha tsui's tourist district.
Now can ask u the reverse Q. will a lawyer or any person work in an accounting firm long enough will become a licensed accountant.
your Q. is becoming a lawyer that means u have to be licensed too not anybody with a llb degree conferred by U of Tonga republik.
hk is a highly competitive world, u need to phrase your Q. very smartly. Or else people will only discount u as a flunkie forever.

this dude had been around for at least 25 yrs.
if he doesnt smarten up his modus operandi he will never see making more than 15k.
not even in HK alone, now in van is very competitive.
say u being a very nice guy will u offer him a high paying job in your dept?
is better off to learn here than in real life.
we have to motivate little kids, but big kids belong to some protective shelter as the rest of us are very unforgiving, swimming with sharks u need to have totally undivided attention 24/7.
How about u be the very nice guy tell him to pony u 20k and u can make him a lawyer in 49 days?
