English background Chinese want to apply in HR field (Female)

Hi all, My wife will be immigrated to HK in November 2014 right after our marriage. She was holding an Australian Passport and will apply for a HK ID once we married (which means, no working VISA required). Her bachelor degree is advance science major in psychology and master degree as in human resources. (From UNSW & USYD Australia) [align=center]Since she had been raised up in overseas thus she can’t understand any Cantonese at all. She can only speak and write in English and Mandarin (Both fluent). She would like to apply in HR field or relevant positions. As I know, HR requires communicating with local people. Iwould like to know if her situation is tough or not, and any recommendation forher to start her first step? Thank you very much for your time:smile_40::smile_40::smile_40:

She can take a look at any consultany / HR firm (from overseas which have office in Hong Kong), some of them can accept people who can only speak English.

Extremely tough, even for a lawyer, if unable to master Cantonese, finally only end up with leaving HK.

try looking into the career section of south china morning post. there are occasionally some jobs that require native english (since your boss is a foreigner) while speaking chinese is only a plus.

You didn't mention anything about her work experience? Has she done anything HR related? Or she's a fresh grad?

I think it is tough but not as tough when she moved to other Asia company. There is still a lot of global company would consider hiring people in oversea. If you want in Central, you know what I mean. But your wife have a special advantage as she knew Mandarin and written Chinese well. There is so many listed company from Mainland they would prefer to hire your wife with such background. These listed company actually prohibited people to speak Cantonese in the office.

In order for her to well prepare, I think she need to learn the labour law, MPF and how to measure employee performance.

hope she is lucky enuf to find a chinese money co. who all spoke mandarin and engrish.

I immediately think of whether your wife knows HK labour ordinance if working in HR dept.  (Of course there are some other posts that don't require it).
