It's under discussion, I am afraid the current system is not likely to be changed for the near future because of the vested interests enjoyed by the 3 pcll providers.

whichever way they cut it, its going to admit the same amount of lawyers to be every yr. And also subject to supply & demand too.

I beg a differ. If it was subject to supply & demand, the amount of lawyers getting admitted every year would vary hugely from present and from time to time. Most of the practitioners would agree that every year there are too many new lawyers joining the legal profession. This can be evidenced from the fact that even PCLL graduates nowadays need to worry about their chances of getting a sheet of training contract. While some of them, who are less competitive, need to start their career from the points like paralegal. These happen in current Hong Kong even when the economy is arguably fine. It is not unimaginable that the number of new lawyers will sharply decrease (if subject to S & D) when Hong Kong's economy declines which I believe is about to happen.

I'm referring to supply and demand.

The worse problem is the TC system...PCLL is not even close...

I am a health professional, and had been at this for a long time. Is always the pro body decide how many new grads to to admit every yr.
For sure they can't adjust it so close as if it was a bespoken suit.
If u're a member when u see too many indians out there, will only dilute the billing fees. Something no one wants.
No one needs to agree with me. U can go talk to some old members and ask their opinion too.

What makes you think that's true?

just about all professional trainings have flaws, try to talk to medical interns, CA students, u folks etc.
When u folks became a member u can try to reform those flawed steps & procedures.
Same reason as why some interns, students took their own lives. Is pretty sad.
Then some say if u can't tough it out now, how well will u fare when u come out. Similar to outward bound trips, or sailing in the deep blue sea.
Not long ago the good ship Bounty, which was modelled after the true story of Mutiny on the Bounty.
The captain sailed into the storm, he thought it was ok, in the end it cost him and another sailor's live.
SO these kind of stringent & harrowing training is necessary?
One time I spoke to a paralegal sec. She said her firms' solicitors were carried or supported by the firms barristers' earning, as the conveyances were pretty slow. So these guys were pretty lucky. If not one has to delve into your own nest eggs, negotiate for a bigger line of credit, kow tow and carpet beg your friendly banker for more wasser/H2O.
professional life can be pretty hard too. Try pray to the good Lord, it can help. God help all of us.

soon as u folks get your lic, u will forget about all these hardship anyways.
u would concentrate in making and spending $$.
if one is seemart one would slide thru much easier. dumb people ask too many Q. ended up annoyed the principal to no end. and those really have themselves to blame. best is to keep the opinions to yourself too. And be a good minion, u will have smooth sailing.

What reforms to that would you suggest?

there will always be some form of attrition though, either some bought the farm or change profession altogether.
Not long ago our man of the hour Tony C, his minion was a solicitor and he was probably making more mulla doing realestates than being a soli.

Well said.

Totally Agree. Every one can be a lawyer in Hong Kong nowadays. The application of PCLL is just too easy.
