Need some clarification to your question. Do you mean -
1. being admitted as a qualified solicitor at this age;
2. starting a traineeship with a law firm at this age; or
3. being enrolled in one of the programmes to become a lawyer?

maybe is a global decline of needing as many lawyers as it used to be.
many say many lawyers are unemployed in us, uk & Oz.
and hk is not as busy as once it used to be.
I was talking to a dude, he said 20 some yrs ago hk has a lot more shipping demand. then it will generate lots more conflicts. now the shipping is not as busy in hk.

If you already had some experience in, say regulatory & compliance , banking or merger & acquisition or other fields like contract management, private equity, etc., starting out at 40 isn't too late at all. Incidentally, correct me if I am wrong, there should be a time limitation imparted to the legal practitioners requirement for commencing traineeship.
