I doubt anyone would use English only to show off his competence.  There are justifiable reasons for using English.  For instance, in a multi-national corporation, you would expect a lot of expats working here and they, for most part, only know their native language and English.  Secondly, if you work closely to legal and compliance matters, you would use English infinitely because English, it just so happens, conveys a message to the recipient more effectively than say Chinese.  Thirdly, to succeed, we cannot exclusively conduct business in our principle location.  With cross-broader transactions, contracting entities still prefer to use English and this is especially true when international laws and adjudicated cases can readily be accessible in English.  I personally use English out of necessity and not due to desire.

If you are serious about improving your  English, I would definitely advise you to work off-shore for one to two years or participate in an exchange programme.
原帖由 aspiringword 於 2014-7-8 05:48 PM 發表 yes, I agree with you ,however,I failed english in hkcee, they would not give me any chance to join their family ,so How could I use english in office ? even worse, I have no any chance to make an i ... Some Chinese companies send their employees to overseas for 2 yrs training.  I look at this as an exchange programme and also an opportunity for anyone to improve English.  Huawei has this programme too.
