[local]1[/local]Hi Highbeam, my local pond, and my surface fishing rig for summer. A self-cocking controller with a 1.5 oz free running lead for a bolt effect, with a 9 inch hook-link with short-hair. The lead is also to get the controller at an angle so that the hook-link line is off the water, the fish should see a natural floating bait with no line silhouettes.
The water is not really warm enough for decent surface fishing yet, and we've not really had any decent weather until Wednesday. But with two days of sunshine, and an air temperature of 16 degrees today (Thursday), I thought I give it a try. A bit slow, had 3 fish in 4 hours. An 8 pound common, a 11 pound mirror and a 12 pound mirror.

Small pond near me in the North East of England near Sunderland, £20 membership per year. I actually prefer the fishing down south in Essex where I used to live, as its normally 2 to 3 degrees warmer so you tend to get bigger fish, though the ponds are more expensive to fish, but there's a decent carp river which is free fishing.

In the summer, I use mainly bread for surface fishing, sometimes dog-biscuits or floating trout pellets. I have also tried Maltesers and marshmallows, and they worked fine when the water is warm.
Will take some photos of my rod/reel/rig etc in my next session, but I use two 12 ft, 2-section, 2.5 lb test curve carbon rods, 10 lb braid connected with a swivel to a 9-inch 8 lb braid hooklink, and the terminal tackles are described above.

If I have a pond like you, I would stock some black bass.
chaotic 2015-7-4 12:05
Its my local pond, not my pond...:) I don't own it, but I am a member of the fishing club that owns the pond. Black Bass is not a UK native species, and its illegal to import non-native fish into the country these days. Oh lastly, to answer your question on the other thread, catch and release only, so I am not sure how the carp would taste...:)

Been here in the UK since I was very young, so I feel myself to be a local. That aside, the UK is very culturally diversify these days, and although I cannot say there's no racism, I can say that there is very little racism evident in everyday life. The UK have some of the oldest and toughest anti-discrimination laws in the world, which helped to change attitudes since the bad old days of the 60s and 70s.
On this particular pond, the other members are very friendly. I've sometimes forgotten to bring or run out of some minor terminal tackles, and have no problem in 'borrowing' from other members. The one time I dropped my cigarettes in the water, and must have smoked about half a packet of from the guy on the next peg. I only asked for one, but after that, he offered every time he light one up for himself. Also, the photos of me holding fishes are taken by people fishing on nearby pegs, fellow fishermen are always willing to help out in either taking photos, or landing fish if there is a monster on the line. All in all, a great little club.
