Hello everybody:loveliness:,
I have tons of questions regarding the JD program in Hong Kong.Iam entering my fourth and also last year of undergrad study in University ofAlberta, Canada where I major in Marketing and minor in Business Law. Iam planning to apply for Juris Doctor in University of Hong Kong, CUHK, and CityU.
I am wondering what are my chances getting into all three of them? What are the minimum GPA required? Are they looking for CGPA or Major GPA? Because i didn't do so well during my first and second year of study, i was majoring in biology and it was a disaster :/ I scored a GPA of 3.85 during my third year of study. My current CGPA is about 3.4 - 3.5. I noticed that University of Hong Kong require two reference letters. I am currently in a study aboard program in Harvard University for the summer and i think one of my Harvard Law professor will be willing to write me one. Will a reference letter from a Harvard law professor help? Your help will be greatly appreciated and thank you! (:

Have you considered London U LLB? It is much easier to get in but the chance to become a lawyer is lower compared to JD.

Jim,
Suggest you to look up the latest NCA policy (Jan 2015).

But isn't LLB an undergrad degree?
I may not continue to pursue a career in law after JD. I am actually considering a career in Marketing after I get my master degree as I believe having a legal background is important to any business fields

I was originally from HK, but i moved to Canada when i was about 10 yrs old. I would love to move back and work in HK. What do you think my chances are getting into HKU and CUHK?

I came from a similar background (also from Canada), I thinj you can still stand a chance if you apply for CUHK JD, but do you know that HKU only offers FT program? in other words, if you get in HKU, you can only study FT which means you are 2-3 years worse off compare with your fellow classmates when looking for a marketing job
if you have no intention to pursue in legal career, I'd advise you to re think
by the way, it never hurts to apply to see your chance, it'd be so much easier to just pay the application fee and see whether or not you can get in

if you are only looking for law to complement your future ambitions in marketing...it's better to pick the Uo L programs
offers more flexibility
also regarding future of hk... I am not sure if the Chinese government will want hk to switch their legal system to China law?

The name of your school does matter for HKU JD.
I recalled there was U of Toronto and UBC students in the HKJ JD programs, they have quite a lot of work experience and Masters.
About 60% in HKU JD is fresh grad., nonetheless, they all have stellar academic records from top-tier Universities from local, US, UK and China.
Btw you should apply to all JDs as sometime this kind of entry game depends on luck as well.
Nonetheless, if you just need a law degree to accompany your marketing career, you should also consider CPE or UoL.

Im of similar background, may I ask whether a JD would enhance the employability of a marketer / someone who wants to work in the bank ? :) thanks a lot!

It depends on your explanation.
My first impression would be negative, allow me to say, as law is somehow irrelevant to marketing. Will you leave the field in a few years which caused us to look for another replacement? How much effort can you pay on work, as jd is knowingly a demanding course? If you are that interested in law, why dont you purue a mastet in marketing?
These are the first few questions that come to my mind. As long as you could pursuade, there is still a chance

Typo
If you are that interested in marketing, why dont you purue a master in marketing, instead of law
