I would like to read the Graduate Entry of London U LLB. Although the University still distributes subject guide and statute book to its students, it seems that textbooks would no longer be provided.

Is it necessary for me who intended to join preparatory lectures conducted by SPACE to purchase the books listed under essential reading (textbook, casebook etc) in subject guide? How much would it be for each year, alternatively, could I rely on a reader's card in order to gain access to such books (I understand that I can't borrow them out of the library)?

I went to the seminar at polyu yesterday, the speaker from london u answered yes for your first question. Purchasing textbook is rather expensive, I have researched for some of the books on book depository, and it seems it is really a cheaper source of textbooks, and the shop offers free shipping. At the same time, I have also checked the availability of textbook from university libraries, the answer is YES, you can find some of the textbooks there, but I am not sure if you can find them all, and you may only find early editions of the books. Hope this helps.

You may approach senior or sophomore for re-sale of textbook .

As far as i know, there are thousands of tradings in the beginning of academic year

Thanks for your information, it seems that buying textbook is nearly inevitable.

But would the recommended book be changed for the coming academic year? It would be a shame if I have decided to and bought one, then the University change the study guide and recommended reading.

Thank you for your advise. How can I approach them if I really intended to use second hand books?
Besides, how often the publishers issue new editions? How realiable the old edition would then be?

U may check the trial study guide provided by UOL, especially the level 4 modules
From what I found online, and what the speaker from UOL said, the seldom make big changes to the modules, in order to make it easy for their students

(FYI, Some students do register a module and feel not confident in doing well the exam, they skip the exam and re-register the module next year, to give themselves more time to tackle module)

What they usually change is the edition of the textbook, they change to a newer edition

Thanks so much for your advice.
In fact, what I'm afraid of the most is the possible substantial change to public law as well as European union law since Brexit. The books available now are published before that. They are susceptible to politics.

It seems a good choice to start studying public law a little bit later to wait for new books

jodyla 2017-5-2 20:56

It doesn't seem like BREXIT will affect that public law.

For EU Law, I am not sure, but it is a year 2 course, you won't need to take it during the first year of study anyway. So it shouldn't be a matter at all.

Please correct me if I am wrong.
