Biography

Kim Chung is viewed as a young talent and a rare guitarist of the professional guitar artists. There are only two female professional guitarists in Ho Chi Minh City – Kim Chung and Phuong Thao.

“At present, Kim Chung has no opponents in tremolo techniques,” said guitarist Pham Thanh Loc.

When asked if she had any secrets, she smiled and said: “I do not understand why I can play like that. I mostly play according my natural instinct instead of training a lot.”

Apart from the natural gift, Kim Chung has been taught by many talented teachers. When she was 11 years old, Kim Chung was taught by Le Vinh Phuc and then by Huynh Huu Dan. When studying at the musical conservatory, Kim Chung was carefully instructed by Bui The Dung and Phung Tuan Vu.

Kim Chung won a series of awards at the 1997 National Guitar Competition, gaining three awards at the same time, the first prize, the prize for Vietnamese piece of music best player and the prize for the best female guitarist.

With the achievements and excellent university graduation results in 1999, Kim Chung was invited to work as a lecturer for Ho Chi Minh City Musical Conservatoire.

Biography

Thuy Thu Le was born in Saigon, South Vietnam. She was raised and educated in the United States, after her parents left Saigon during the Vietnam War. Le was 8 years old at the time. She is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. She is bilingual as she speaks fluent Vietnamese and English.

Le is best known for her only-ever role in the 1989 Brian De Palma film Casualties of War, starring Michael J. Fox and Sean Penn. She played a South Vietnamese peasant girl named Tran Thi Oanh (based on actual victim Phan Thi Mao), who lived in a remote village in South Vietnam. She was kidnapped, raped and murdered by a group of soldiers. Le played a dual role in the film, with a short portrayal as an Asian student whom Private First Class Max Eriksson (Fox) meets years later aboard a transit line in San Francisco, California.

Despite her critically acclaimed performance in Casualties of War, Le chose to retire from acting. As of 2005, she was working as a schoolteacher in California. She is married and has three children.
