Cathay FA Final Interview Panel

Quick question. Has anyone been interviewed by Dennis recently? the toughest guy in the panel? He interviewed me last time and he was kinda like trying to throw me off the bus, which he succeeded.

小時一般 2018-5-14 05:43 PM

How did he do it?

Well I think he plays very good role as bad attitude person, to see how you respond.

wackamole 2018-5-14 07:10 PM

He didn’t have an attitude at all. No. He did not. He was just not happy with the answer I gave him. Every time when I say something, he would be like, err, wrong answer. Or, No. This is not what I wanted to hear. Oh come on, this is my story, this is my life, whether you like it or not. I’ve been to the Cadet Pilot interview recently, and I was challenged by both the HR and the Captain, and they did go really hard on me, but those are really fair questions. Dennis? He’s just a joke to me.

he really like to ask very challenging question indeed~
ask the same questions many times until I can answer what he want
but the fact is that there're still some candidates can take offer from him
they are really lucky!!!!

what questions did he ask? [/quote]

Just a bunch of HR questions. Like who are you, what are you doing here, why do you want to be a flight attendant, why Cathay etc. Very basic HR questions. I will say though, he asked me the same question for a few times which is why I want to be a Flight Attendant, in different ways of course. I guess he wasn't convinced that a Journalist who has been working for a US news media for a few years would choose to be a Flight Attendant at this time. Oh by the way, I did tell him I have applied for the Cadetship program, which gave him an opportunity to go after me. That was my mistake.

He did that to me as well, even if I had already answered his questions. Look, I have no issues with this guy, I think he is a nice guy, he was certainly nice to me, (Maybe because I am his type?) but I have serious questions about the way he conducted the interview. As someone who has a journalistic background, we don't ask questions like that. We'll only do it when someone does not answer the question, or someone who tries to dance around the question, politicians for instance. We certainly won't try to lead them to say something that pleases us. That's called bias or misleading. Unfortunately, we don't get to choose our interviewer. It's all about luck. I got a bad luck I would say.

Well if you keep having this kind of journalist mindset, it might be more comfortable for you to stay in your industry. Definitely not defending him, I was failed by him as well. But real customers are definitely worse and more unreasonable and customer service job just need to suck it up. I think you edgy perspective and black and white values will get in the way. To be honest, if I were the interviewer seeing your background, I might doubt you as well. It’s the common practice of HR in Hong Kong (again not saying it’s right), you need to prepare a perfect answer beforehand, maybe half-true answer just to make it more convincing. He asked you more than once is good sign for me, at least at that moment I know he is not satisfied and give me more chance to explain rather than just put a X on the paper.

If you ask any experienced recruiters or hiring managers about what you shouldn't do at a job interview they will probably tell you the same thing - Don't lie and don't give a perfect model answer, because that could create a backfire, in other words, be yourself! Dennis asked me a few personal questions, I gave him the best answer I possibly could, with 100% honesty, he didn't like the answer, he could choose to move on, which an experienced recruiter would do. If he wanted to push me out of my comfort zone, that's fine, he could ask me other things. We could talk about a hypothetical situation, we could do a role play or whatever that comes along. But you certainly won't build this upon your candidate's history or background, regardless of what industry or position you are in. Anyhow, you and I can have a debate on this, but at the end of the day, I don't think he is a good recruiter, he may be a good flight attendant, he may be a good flight purser, but he's certainly not good for the job. If you wanna know what an experienced hiring person looks like, good talk to those big guys at the Aircrew Recruitment Team. You will be amazed by how professional they are.

miki2 2018-5-15 06:23 PM

Actually I may understand why he failed you. You don’t have any empathy and I can’t see your passion to be a cabin crew. I failed the fa interview before , but I won’t have any mindset to blame the interviewer . What I want to do is well prepared for next interview instead of publish something on internet to judge the interviewer. I called this as “cyber-violence”What is the purpose for this post ? You are not get into the company yet but you had been caused so much drama. Let it go . Reflect on yourself

Jesus stop quoting from so called “specialist”, it’s just stubborn and stupid. Not asking you to lie but you definitely no need to be so damn honest. If you just want to be a FA to travel and then you plan to resign after a year, are you going to tell this kind of truth to the interviewer. it’s just a fine line between between being honest and being dumb. You told him you also applied for cadet program during the fa interview, I just don’t see how smart you are. Just stop saying experience hr would blah blah blah, it’s just typical Chinese character. And blaming the interviewer not professional enough is the most dumbest thing I have ever seen! Who the hell are you to judge?

If you have been to other job interviews with big corporations then you know exactly where I’m coming from. Now I’m not talking about small local companies, I’m talking about big corporations, like Bloomberg, Retuers, JP Morgan, Goldman Sac, American Airlines, Delta etc. Judging from your response it tells me that either you haven’t been exposed to many interviews, or you haven’t been to a good interview at all.

Having time to judging the quality of interview, why don’t you just spend more time to prep yourself and do better in your interview? I’m not gonna compete what kind of company I had an interview with, it’s just stupid, naive and Mainland-ish. What’s the point of the quality of interview when you don’t pass:fst_005: And it really shocks me when a so called “journalist” to be so narrow-mind and so judgemental, feeling yourself so superior by just have some “big company” interview experience? How old are you?

End of story, if you do get me, you just don’t.

I don’t see how my age has anything to do with what we’re discussing here or whatsoever, but, if that’s an implication of me being immature or having a “closed mindset”, then you’re definitely wrong about everything. I understand we have a different view on this issue, that’s fine, that’s what this forum is about, and I appreciated for your comments. But if you try to lecture me about what I should say or do then I can promise you that you’re gonna be unsuccessful. G’day.

I agree with you wackamole. From the first time I saw him, I know this guy is up to no good. He is calculated, manipulative. He asked me some of the most ridiculous questions I have ever had. He gave me a Pass though. Still, the experience is awful. If I could choose, I would rather have Stephanie on the other side, she is the assistant manager and she is from Canada. Sure she would make a difference, it would be like having a conversation with Amanda if you know what I mean?

As I said to wackamole, he is a very calculated person so I didn't bother to impress him at all. I just stayed calm, keep a cool head, let him play it out and go along with him. I usually talk a lot in a job interview because that's what a job interview is about which is to get to know you but I know if I use the same approach on him it may turn into a negative outcome. So instead of filibustering, I just keep my answer short, keep it simple, straight to the point, no BS, no trash talk, be authentic as I could be, and let everything take care of themselves. It's pretty much like how you respond to a Judge in a court room.
