If the spade A wins, the contract has been downed. Therefore, what I concern here is only when the spade A is ruffed. (I will play an 8 to welcome another spade in case my partner holds the trick.)

The most critical point for the defense is the layout of diamond, but from the dummy, it seems the layout is unfavourable for the defense as dummy has AQT and you get nothing. Therefore, even though the declarer need to finesse he can always make the correct decision.

Therefore, what we can hope is only the declarer does not have enough trumps to ruff the 4th and 5th diamond of the dummy. If partner has gaurds, then the declarer cannot depend on the club to discard as you have club K and also not by spade as the declarer doesn't have.

So my way of defense is draw as many trumps as possible.

now your parnter has won the first round
and it's surely to be down one
Do you mean that we should win more:smile_41:

I would play a small D to ask for a shift in case partner wins that trick.  About 50% of chance he will lead a D for me to ruff for down 2 or 3

ninjablack 2007-11-2 01:06 AM

to alexskt: excactly
to szekei2: ic, no definite D shift signal here?

BeSmart 2007-11-2 12:30 PM

I always support drawing trumps from the beginning to the end.

drawing trumps is good but just wondering if partner can hold the lead, can we reveal more info. to him? (a D shift here)
