I'm a u fresh grad this year. My major was not hotel man. At first I applied for management trainee positions but no reply. Now I got a job offer frm an international branded hotel. (It claimed it is a 5 star hotel but I guess only 4 star as compared with those real 5 star ones:/)  That is guest service officer, working as a receptionist (front desk). Im wondering if this would be a good start for me to develop my career in hotel field. Thanks.

Promotion in hotel should depend on your working experience and people relationship rather than qualification.

Ya, I think so but I wonder if it would be hard for me to get promoted as the priority is given to management trainees

Working hard to get promoted in hotel as soon as possible is what the young people just graduating from university think like that. Actually, getting promotion should reply on 60% of luck and 40% of people relationship, but of course, the minimum entrance requirement is that you have to spend good mandarin and English. To be honest, if you have studied the professional subject in university, please don't choose to work in hotel because working in hotel just consider as a stable job, but not as best way to earn money in th short term
