My job requires me to work at clients' offices so I can see many companies' work environments for their employees.
Needless to say, MNC undoubtedly provide much more comfortable environment for their staff than local companies do so.
However, I subsequently found out that many MNC or foreign companies (in HK) face the same situation that the gender imbalance of their local employees is so remarkable.Their female employees outnumber the male employees significantly (almost 9:1)
When I was on college, i took OB course (organizational behavior) and knew that gender imbalance may arise from industrial nature. For example, it is common for manufacturing sectors to hire many more male labor than female.
the interesting thing is that the gender imbalance situation now happens in nearly ALL industries! No matter it is manufacturing sector or services sector, the 9:1 ratio still applied. It seems to me that MNC/foreign companies prefer to hire local females rather than hire local males.
Anyone can tell me is it really the case? why equal opportunities commission keep silence for this matter but only require HKers not discriminate against mainland Chinese?
