We three travelled Switzerland with a 15-day travel pass each, which is very convenient as all public transport in Switzerland is included. In addition, you can also enjoy a 50% discount for cable car and tram rides to Monte San Salvatore, Mount Titlis, Mount First and Gornergrat. Some museums including the Matterhorn Museum are also included. Of course, tickets for the round trip to Colmar, France were bought separately for 105 CHF.
For Zurich, we stayed at Leoneck Swiss Hotel. It is not easy to reach there with all the baggage unless you take a tram. Also, the room was pretty small.
For Zermatt, we stayed at Hotel Perren Superior. The hotel was a 10 to 15-minute walk away from the railway station. The room was spacious enough for three with a balcony that provided an excellent view of Mount Matterhorn. I highly recommend this hotel even though I am not sure if all the rooms there offer such a great view of Mount Matterhorn.
For Bern, we stayed at Kreuz Bern Modern City Hotel for 6 nights, as a base to reach other cities, such as Basel, Geneva, Luzern and Lausanne. Again, the hotel was clean, new and spacious, perhaps due to the fact that it is currently undergoing renovation. The hotel also has a great location, within 10 minutes of walking distance from the railway station. But one drawback is that you may hear the sound of the bell from the church even at midnight. I suspect that hotels in that area have the same problem as well. But on the whole, I will also recommend this hotel.
